Belize SLP
My week in Belize was an incredible and meaningful experience. Volunteering at Stella Maris Special Education School and the clinic allowed me to use my speech therapy skills, build real relationships, and learn so much from the students and staff. I only wish I had more time there. One week wasn’t enough. Outside of work, snorkeling at Caye Caulker and cave tubing were unforgettable. Adding an extra day or even a night on one of the islands would make the experience even better. Overall, my time in Belize was genuinely rewarding, and I hope to go back for a longer stay.

Occupational Therapy Student Level 1 Fieldwork
In Nov. of 2025, I had the opportunity to go to Belize for my level 1 fieldwork rotation. I can not express enough positivity about this experience. It was the most hands on experience I have had so far. Our fieldwork instructor was amazing, she provided great feedback during and after our session and was very supportive. Therapy volunteers also gave us the opportunity to experience things such as snorkeling, zip lining, and cave tubing. This was amazing and I would recommend this trip to anyone!

San Ignacio, Belize
This experience was amazing! I really enjoyed the people I worked with! Each day we learned more and more about the culture. Working with Jamie and the program increased my skill set as a future occupational therapist. My favorite part was not only working with the children but also their families and creating a home exercise program (HEP). Knowing that the will have a couple more resources that they didn't have prior to us coming, makes me feel that I am impacting them in a positive way, and that's because of this program.

Fieldwork experience!
The overall experience was great! The country is beautiful and very unique with many languages spoken. The sight seeing days were amazing and I enjoyed every second. Therapy adventures did a great job at accommodating many changes in the schedule that would come up. Also, the occupational therapist that we had was wonderful and knew what she was doing! She was able to guide and teach us specific strategies to regulate a lot of the kids which was our main goal for therapy. I do think a longer stay would have been helpful to the kids, we stayed for a week.

MSU Occupational Therapy (OT) Level 1 Fieldwork in Belize
This was such an amazing experience! I had the opportunity to spend a day in Caye Caulker to snorkel and explore the island. On another excursion, I went cave tubing and ziplined through the jungle. The most invaluable part of this experience was working with the students at Stella Maris and the kids in the clinic. Amy, an occupational therapist, and Tammy, a speech therapist, were amazing educators who would answer all of our questions, explain their reasoning for interventions, and overall enriched our learning. I loved leading an OT activity that really helped me to apply what I have been learning in my OT program. This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that I would recommend to anyone who wants to get out of their comfort zone, improve their therapy-related skills, and make an impact on the children and families in Belize! Thank you, Therapy Adventures International, for this trip!

OT Fieldwork Rotation
Had an amazing experience in Belize with Therapy Volunteer International! I valued the opportunity to work in both school and clinic settings, gaining insight into the local culture and the importance of therapy services. It was inspiring to see the creativity and dedication of therapists working with limited resources. This experience deepened my understanding of global healthcare and strengthened my passion for pediatric occupational therapy. I’m grateful for the connections made and the lessons learned along the way.

Level 1 OT Fieldwork in Belize
I had the amazing opportunity to travel to Belize with a group of five, and it was truly one of the best experiences of my life. The entire process—from planning to arriving back home—went smoothly, and the trip was both meaningful and exciting from start to finish.
While there, I worked closely with two incredible professionals: Amy, an Occupational Therapist, and Tammy, a Speech Therapist. They were both so knowledgeable, supportive, and passionate about their work. I learned a great deal from observing and collaborating with them, especially in a hands-on, real-world setting.

An amazing experience!
This volunteer opportunity had such a positive impact for my personal and work life. It was a great way to give families support/strategies while learning from other therapy disciplines. I found encouragement in working as a team and discovered new ways to connect with my kiddos to facilitate expanding on their language skills. Our group leader, Grace, helped everyone feel comfortable and provided everyone with great feedback. It was a bonus to do excursions with this team of therapists and build upon relationships outside of a work environment. I highly recommend!

Therapy Volunteers Belize
This trip truly changed my life. It was my first time ever traveling internationally and alone, and I am so glad I did it. I got first hand experience in speech pathology and clinical application. We also went snorkeling, ziplining, and hiking! Amazing meals were provided and the workers were incredible. Not a HUGE amount of direct, hands-on experience; this was understandable, however, because the group I attended with was fairly young. I 100% would recommend this trip to anyone looking for an adventure.

MSU OT Belize Trip!
There are not enough words to describe the experience that I had down in Belize working with Therapy Volunteers. This was my second time in Belize and I still can't get over how beautiful the country is. From spending the day at Caye Caulker, to tubing through the jungle, the excursions were such an amazing experience. But, my favorite part of the trip was working with the amazing staff kiddos. Amy and Tammy both fostered fantastic learning environments, answering any questions and explaining their intervention process for each kid that we saw. We were very fortunate to have such an amazing staff down there to help us learn during our Level I experience. This was such an amazing experience and I would recommend this trip, and any other trip, to anyone. Thank you again!

Helping those in need and seeing the beautiful country!
This was my first study abroad experience and it was so amazing to meet other people from across the US. I loved getting to work with them in Belize to aid the therapist in play based therapy. I learned a lot of helpful tools I can bring into my future in the speech therapy field.
All the excursions were amazing too! We did snorkeling which was my favorite! I enjoyed seeing all the culture and the Mayan ruins. We experienced all the classic Belizian dishes provided by the tropical education center and restaurants near by.

Therapy Volunteers
This trip was the perfect blend of being a volunteer and a tourist. We spent 3 days completely dedicated to working and volunteering with the professionals in their everyday clinic. The other 3 days were spent doing excursions and exploring the country. I met so many wonderful kids and learned so much from observing them in school and in their therapy sessions. The children are just the best and it’s really amazing to see how excited they get when they are pulled to go to therapy.
