Level I Fieldwork or Clinical Experience

TVI’s Level I Fieldwork or Clinical Experiences are designed to provide students with early exposure to international therapy service delivery through observation, guided participation, and reflective learning. Students work alongside licensed clinicians and local providers to gain insight into culturally responsive care, interdisciplinary collaboration, and community-based service models. Experiences may include observing evaluations and treatment sessions, assisting with therapy activities under supervision, participating in screenings, and engaging in structured reflection and learning activities. These placements emphasize professional development, cultural humility, and understanding service delivery in resource-limited settings.

Level II Fieldwork Experience or Clinical Practicum/Externship

TVI’s Level II Fieldwork Experiences and Clinical Practicum/Externships offer students advanced, supervised clinical involvement in international settings. Under the direct supervision of licensed therapists, students may participate in evaluations, treatment planning, documentation, and implementation of therapy services across pediatric populations. These experiences are designed to support students in meeting university and professional competencies while providing meaningful, ethical services to underserved communities. Emphasis is placed on hands-on clinical skill development, interdisciplinary teamwork, ethical global practice, and culturally responsive intervention within short-term service programs.

Capstone Experience

TVI Capstone Experiences allow students to complete project-based or research-informed work that aligns with their academic program while contributing to sustainable community impact. Capstone projects may include program development, needs assessments, caregiver education materials, outcome tracking, curriculum creation, or quality improvement initiatives in collaboration with local partners. Students work with TVI staff and on-site professionals to ensure projects are culturally appropriate, ethically grounded, and relevant to community needs. This experience emphasizes leadership, critical thinking, and applied scholarship within a global service-learning context.

Independent Study Abroad Experience

Independent Study Abroad Experience

TVI’s Independent Study Abroad Experiences are ideal for students seeking non-clinical, academic, or exploratory international learning opportunities. These experiences may include observation, service-learning, community engagement, educational programming, and cross-cultural immersion without formal clinical responsibilities. This option is well-suited for students early in their academic program or those whose coursework does not require direct clinical hours, with a focus on global awareness, cultural competence, and ethical service engagement.

One-Week Service Trip

TVI’s one-week summer service trips provide licensed clinicians the opportunity to support pediatric-focused summer camp programming through direct, ethical, and culturally responsive therapy services. Clinicians partner with TVI staff, local providers, and camp leaders to integrate therapy into structured camp activities, group sessions, and play-based interventions designed for children with developmental, physical, and communication needs. Clinicians contribute through screenings, individualized and group-based therapy activities, caregiver and staff education, and capacity-building initiatives rooted in community-identified goals. These short-term experiences emphasize interdisciplinary collaboration, child-centered and play-based care, mentorship of students (when applicable), and sustainable skill-building, helping ensure continuity of care beyond the camp setting. Participants gain meaningful pediatric global health experience while supporting inclusive, enriching summer camp environments for children and families.
